Raising the Standards Through Chapter Books: The C.I.A. Approach Reviews

Earnest Parenting Review: Sarah Collinge has written the book Raising the Standards Through Chapter Books: The C.I.A. Approach, and it's rocking my (educational) world. Let me explain. My boys do not like to read. Teaching them to read was a very painful process for all of us, even though I did my very best to make it at least tolerable. Reading stories, going to the library, having plenty of books available around the house…I've tried every trick I could to improve things. I gave up on the whole battle last year. All of them can read quite well, but I couldn't get anyone to try chapter books. At all. Continue reading the rest of the review here @ earnestparenting.com...

Families.com Review: I am going a little off topic in today's blog, as I had the chance to review a book I was recently sent titled "Raising the Standards through Chapter Books: The C.I.A. Approach" by Sarah Collinge. If you are a teacher or even a homeschooler, you might this find to be a great way to help elementary-aged students with reading longer texts. Auburnpub.com Review: When talking about reading, we often focus on very young students and the skills that they need to acquire to learn to read. At the lower grade levels, students are expected to understand and learn from simple texts that are short in length. As kids progress through grade levels, the text becomes longer and more complex. Students are asked to start reading chapter books and textbooks with many sections. Learning how to navigate more difficult text doesn't necessarily come naturally. Reading Horizons Review: It's always flattering. But there's a problem. Writing a book review takes time and… can I be honest here? It can also be a little boring and a lot mundane. But that was definitely not the case with Sarah Collinge's book, Raising the Standards Through Chapter Books: The C.I.A. Approach. From the book's first Introduction through the hands-on C.I.A. worksheets, I was hooked. Continue reading the rest of the review here @ readinghorizons.com...

For the love of teaching.net Review: I found another book that really speaks to my teaching heart. Specifically to my "students should get to read chapter books and learn their 'thinking for reading skills'" heart. This book is called Raising the Standards Through Chapter Books: The C.I.A. Approach, by Sarah Collinge. (C.I.A. stands for Collect, Interpret, and Apply.) Continue reading the rest of the review here @ fortheloveofteaching.net

Getting Smart Review: Americans today are reading less. The National Endowment for the Arts reported that less than one-third of 13-year-olds read daily and 19 percent of 17-year-olds are non-readers. Even those that do read, the report suggests, aren't reading as well. Reading scores among students today have declined. While employers report the increasing importance of reading as a basic skill, many graduates today fall short. Continue reading the rest of the review here @ gettingsmart.com...

Howtolearn.com review: Teachers and parents get excited when they are able to help a child find a book that interests them and one that will keep them reading all the way through to the last page. But then comes the age old question, "I'm finished, now what do I read?" Continue reading the rest of the review here @ howtolearn.com...
